Portillo

Portillo is a ski resort in South America, located in the Andes mountains of Chile, close to the border between Chile and Argentina at Paso Los Libertadores, it is 61 km (38 mi) from Los Andes, the nearest city, and 160 km NE (100 mi) by vehicle from Santiago. Its hotel sits at an elevation of 2,880 m (9,450 ft) above sea level, and the highest lift reaches 3,310 m (10,860 ft). The lowest lift loads at 2,548 m (8,360 ft), yielding a vertical drop of 762 m (2,500 ft). Ski Portillo has 35 named runs and 14 lifts.

Portillo has since become one of the principal destinations for ski racers to train during the northern hemisphere summer and hosts the national ski teams of Austria, Italy, and the United States.

The summit of the mountain (Ojos de Agua) climbs to 4,222 m (13,852 ft). Nearby peaks include Los Tres Hermanos at 4,751 m (15,587 ft) and La Paraya at 4,831 m (15,850 ft). Aconcagua, the highest peak in the western and southern hemispheres, is nearby at 6,961 m (22,838 ft), which exceeds any peak in Europe, Africa, and North America; only the Himalayas, Karakoram, and Tien Shan in Asia are higher.

Valle Nevado

The Valle Nevado Ski resort is located in the heart of the Andes, located at only 46 km (28.6 mi) from Santiago.
Valle Nevado is the largest ski Center in South America and the most modern ski resort in Chile, placed at 3,025 m (9.925 ft) above sea level and consider 9,000 hectares (22.240 acres) for skiing, distributed in 36.9km (22.9 mi) of skiable surface.
The Ski Season begin around second week of June and ends during the first or second week in October.

Valle Nevado Ski Resort is the ideal place if you want to ski, practice snowboard, or heli-ski, and also is the right place for those who are looking for extreme ski sports, since this ski resort has a Snow Park for jumps and free style.It also counts with instructors on its Ski school with more than 70 teachers available to train in ski and snowboard in its different modalities.
Valle Nevado Ski centre is not only a ski resort designed for winter sports is also a great spot for those who enjoy mountain view and nature. The Ski Resort was open in 1988 and its open the whole year, and it forms with El Colorado Ski Center and La Parva, the three Valleys of the Andes. Together they have over 10,000 hectares (24.710 acres) of skiiable surface with 106 km (66.4 mi) of trails. In Valle Nevado Ski Chile, you can find snow powdered, 34 trails and slopes with a difference that reaches the 810 m (2657 ft) and finish in splendid Andean grasslands and areas outside of trails with excellent virgin snow.

For the snowboarders, Valle Nevado Ski resort has created the Snowboard Park, with 100 m long and 50 of wide, offers two special trails: Half Pipe and Border Cross, next to the Lift called la Escondida (the hidden). Valle Nevado Chile is also the only ski centre in the South Hemisphere that is considered for the World Cup of Snowboard.
Valle Nevado hotels offers gastronomy, great service, fitness centre and shows that are prepared for the season. The resort has three hotels which provides services and facilities for both skiers and non-skiers.

If you want to visit Valle Nevado Ski Center by yourself, take the route to Farellones (19.8 mi / 31.8 km) and then take the detour to the Ski Center. From this point, there are 13.8 km (8.6 mi) to arrive to Valle Nevado.
NOTICE: In winter time, the traffic from 08:00 to 14:00 hours the route is only upward and from 14:00 until 20:00 hrs, it is exclusive to descend. Also, it is mandatory if you are driving, to carry chains for snow.

El Colorado

The El Colorado Ski Center is only 36 km (22.4mi) from Santiago, and gives its visitors more than 100 ski slopes with a spectacular panoramic view of the valley of the capital.

The resort is located on Cerro Colorado, and reaches up to 3.333m (10935 ft) and a drop of 903m (2962 ft), receives abundant but short snowfalls with an average of 3.5 m of snowfall in a normal year.

El Colorado has a well rounded offer of services, conveniences and slopes for all kinds of levels. In recent times, it has become the ideal center for the practice of snow sports by the whole family during each winter season.

In addition, the station receives its name for its dazzling sunsets, where the red of the sunset colors the sky and the mountains above the capital.

La Parva

The La Parva Ski Center, with an average height of 2700 meters above sea level, is located 50 kilometers from the city of Santiago, passing Farellones and only 1 kilometer from the mountain town of the same name.

In La Parva, athletes can enjoy 38 skiable kilometers, distributed in its 30 extensive ski and snowboard slopes, designed for all levels of difficulty, which connect with the slopes of Valle Nevado.
